Pink Flamingo Fundraiser Helps Kids Raise Money.

We recently sold a large flock of our Economingos to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Az.  The order was placed by Mike Edge, Director of Student Ministry.  This was not the first purchase of Pink Flamingos the church has made.  In fact, Mike was adding to an existing flock that had been used the prior year. Mike and I spoke on the phone for quite awhile, and I asked him about his prior fundraising experience with pink flamingos, how his fundraiser went and how long the fundraising event lasted.  Mike told me that they held last year’s fundraiser for only a couple of weeks and that the efforts were well received by their community. Their group raised approximately $1200.00 and the funds were used to benefit the youth group. Mike’s account is fairly typical of a Pink Flamingo Fundraiser.  Holding any type of fundraiser for the first time may seem intimidating but the rewards of a Flamingo Fundraiser are worth it. Placing Pink Flamingos on someone’s lawn and getting a donation to remove them may seem like a whacky and crazy way to raise money but it works. Those who select this method of fundraising also have a lot more fun than selling candy bars or washing cars.  From the stories we hear, the people who are the recipients or “victims” of a flocking generally get a big kick out of seeing a flock of smiling Pink Flamingos spread out in their front yard, and they are more than willing to suggest other friends or acquaintances who might benefit from the same experience.

 

In addition, Pink Flamingos do not eat much, are easy to care for and can be used year after year. Although some of the Pink Flamingos may “fly off,” they are easy to replace. Having an annual event can become a good source of funds, especially when you consider there are plenty of prospective Flockees who could benefit from a good flocking and a good laugh.

Here is an idea for a fundraiser using pink flamingos.  Most flamingo fundraisers place a flock of Pink Flamingos on the lawn and then request donations to remove them, and an additional dollar amount to place them on another “victim’s” lawn.

Here is a second fundraising method that we have seen work extremely well. Have a contest with a prize.  Purchase 45 or more unpainted “Economingos” and sell them for $10 to $25, or for as much as you think people will pay, to individuals of your group or church, fellow employees or school class. Each contestant will then paint and dress up their flamingo or flamingos to some agreed-upon theme.  Ideas include tropical, Christmas, Halloween, or whatever theme the group decides on. On the appointed day or evening, when everyone has gathered together, have a vote to decide who has the best-dressed flamingo.  The prize is then awarded to the person whose flamingo has garnered the most votes. The prize could be a donated gift, or service from a business or individual, or even a portion of the sales.  Once the contest is over, the flamingos can be placed up for auction and all the proceeds used for the charity or cause.

A Pink Flamingo Fundraiser From Palm Springs, Very Cool!

There are many ways to have a Pink Flamingo Fundraiser but in Palm Springs it is a special event. As reported in The Desert Sun, the local Palm Springs newspaper contestants decorated plastic flamingos for a $1000 total grand prize.  Billed as ” The Flamingos of The Desert Contest“ and held at Azul Tapas Lounge in Palm Springs the event was highly successful.

Contestants decorated Pink Lawn Flamingos and then their creations were put on display to garner votes.  Each flamingo cost the contestant $25 and then were auctioned of after the winner was selected. Azul owner George Kessinger said that he had held a similar event ten years ago and had raised approx $25.000. Organizers of this event expected to raise approx. 1,200 for the evening.

Guest paid $.50 cents to vote and Mike McLains flamingo titled Priscilla, Queen of the Desert collected $53 in votes.
